The Seattle-based Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio have an exciting start to the new year ahead of them as they release their sophomore LP, I Told You So, on Friday via Colemie Records. I Told You So follows the trio’s 2018 debut album, Close But No Cigar, which peaked at #1 and #3 on Billboard‘s Contemporary Jazz and Jazz Album charts, respectively, and shows the continued evolution in the thrilling interplay explosive chemistry between Delvon Lamarr (organ), Jimmy James (guitar), and Dan Weiss (drums).
Bandleader Delvon Lamarr is a self-taught virtuosic musician with perfect pitch who taught himself jazz and has effortlessly been able to play a multitude of instruments. On guitar is the dynamo Jimmy James who eases through Steve Cropper-style guitar, volcanic acid-rock freak-out lead playing, and slinky Grant Green-style jazz. From Reno, Nevada is drummer Dan Weiss, who fans may also know from soul and funk collective The Sextones.
Ahead of the album’s release, Live For Live Music premiered the cover of George Michael‘s “Careless Whisper” featured on I Told You So. As Lamarr said of the cover, “We were doing a show here in Seattle at the beginning of the band and Jimmy, in between songs, kind of quoted a piece of ‘Careless Whisper’.
