Streaming jazz series
Los Gatos Music and Arts continues Jazz Off the Plazz, its free virtual concert series, on Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m., through Sept. 9. The series, streaming at www.jazzontheplazz.com, was developed in lieu of the regular summer Jazz on the Plazz series, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.
Next month’s lineup starts Aug. 5 with the John Storie and Alex Frank Duo presenting “Jazz Stories From LA,” live-streamed from Los Angeles.
Up next are Sara Niemetz and Snuffy Walden on Aug. 12, playing jazz standards and originals. They’re followed on Aug. 19 by Skyline Hot Club, a band formed by Kevan Smedt and Jason Bellenkes through their mutual love of swing music and the music of Django Reinhardt. On Aug. 26, vocalist and lyricist Tiffany Austin performs a mix of R&B, hip-hop and the blues.
Jazz pianist and vocalist John Proulx plays the penultimate show in the series Sept. 2, and former Santana vocalist Tony Lindsay closes it out Sept. 9.
Its concert series may be virtual, but donors to Los Gatos Music and Arts can still reap tangible rewards with the Jazz Card. For a $100 donation, the card offers 14 different free items and/or services from Los Gatos businesses. It’s available as of Aug. 1 at www.jazzontheplazz.com.
